• George McSwain informs us that Thad Mathew McSwain died while visitinghis daughter in Tennessee  (personal email, April 2007).  Informationin his funeral remembrance tells us this daughter was Terrye Richter,in Maryville, Tennessee, and Thad died in the Blount MemorialHospital, in Blount County, Tennessee, near Knoxville (which is inneighbouring Knox County).  George indicates that Thad had been ingood health, but apparently fell ill while in Tennessee.
  
  At the time of his death, Thad was a member of Calvary MissionaryBaptist Church in Stuttgart, Arkansas, where he had long been anactive member.  The funeral service was held in this church, under thedirection of Turpin Funeral Home, with burial following in the LoneTree Cemetery.

  The first public record I find for Mildred Rowland is the 1920 censusfor Stone County, Arkansas, when she is almost 3 years old.

  The 1920 census was taken in January.  This age of 2 years 11 monthsdoes not correlate with her birth date reported by the Social SecurityDeath Index of 27 January 1918.  If she was 1 month short of her 3rdbirthday, it seems her birth date was actually January 1917, not 1918.
  
  Thad and Mildred were married on Christmas Day 1939.  Their licensewas issued on 23 Dec 1939.  Place of marriage presumed to be ArkansasCounty.
  
  Mildred was in California as a young woman.  I do not have details,but found that her Social Security number had been issued inCalifornia "Before 1951."  She was back in Stuttgart, Arkansas inlater life.  In the 1960s, I visited Thad and Mildred with mywife-to-be Edith McSwain.  I have not found details confirming this,but I surmise she and Thad were in California during World War II.
