Some genealogies list the the FitzAlans as Earls of Arundel with nosequence number. Others list them as Earls in number sequence. Bythe latter, John FitzAlan, born 1248, would be the 7th Earl ofArundel, and his son Edmund the 8th Earl. However, the EncyclopaediaBritannica is giving information some of these Arundels, has the 3rdEarl of Arundel as the later Richard FitzAlan, born about 1330. Theynumber out form there. There is no information on the 1st and 2ndEarl. Perhaps the earlier Arundels (FitzAlans) were called Barons andsome genealogies have referred to them as Earls.
